Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya At The Temple

Aishwarya With Her Mother

Bollywood Star Aishwarya Rai visited ajmer in 2006 and paid obeisance at the tomb of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinudeen Chisti in this town. Clad in black jeans, a shirt and a scarf and accompanied by her mother she also offered prayers at theBrahma temple at Pushkar near Ajmer.
God only knows what Aishwarya Rai has run into. As the Bollywood star came under fire on her visit to the only Brahma temple in the country, controversy too accompanied her in the form of her drunken bodyguard.
The incident has led priests in the holy town of Pushkar to organise special prayers to seek wisdom for Aishwarya Rai, after one of her bodyguards accompanying her entered the temple allegedly in an inebriated condition.
It all started when the priests at the Brahma temple began fighting among themselves to decide who would offer puja for the star. The security personnel tried to pacify them, but in vain. The scene got murky thereafter and a section of the priests said one of the bodyguards accompanying Aishwarya was drunk.
Following this, the priests organised a two-hour shanti paath and sadbudhi yagna near the Pushkar Sarovar so that Aishwarya gets the wisdom to offer an apology for the wrongdoings of her personal guards. The prayers were attended by over 150 people.
The priests insisted that Aishwarya should apologise as one of three bodyguards who had accompanied her to the temple was drunk. However she has not tendered an apology so far. According to the priests the guard had desecrated the temple by entering it in a drunken condition.
Meanwhile, Aishwarya has denied the allegation. She said that her bodyguard was not drunk, but was only trying to ward off fans and reporters away from her.

Brahma Temple

The Marble Steps Leading To The Inner Premises Of The Temple

On the banks of Pushkar near Ajmer stands the only Brahma Temple of the country. The temple is regarded sacred among the Hindus. Lord Brahma is considered one of the trinity- the three prime gods who undertake to create, preserve and destroy completing the cycle of the Universe. It is believed to have been constructed in the 14th century.
Many legends are associated with the lake and the temple. It is believed that Lord Brahma had slain the demon Vajra Nabh with a lotus flower. When the petals of the blossom hit the ground, the sacred Lake Pushkar sprang up. Thus on the banks of the lake a temple to Brahma was built. Another religious tale says that Brahma had descended here to perform a sacrifice (yagna) and had left his wife Saraswati back in the heavens. Since it could only be performed if accompanied by his wife, Brahma married a local lad called Gayatri. Saraswati flew into a rage and cursed her husband when she came to know of the incident. It is because of that curse that Brahma is not worshipped anywhere as the main deity except at Pushkar. The idol is a life sized one of the four armed God. The temple was built in the 14th century.
The marble steps leading to the inner premises of the temple, the elaborately carved swans and the silver inlaid marble archways enthrall the spectators. The floor is embellished with silver coins bearing the donors names and the red spire towers atop the temple honoring its fame. A silver turtle welcomes the devotee into the inner sanctum and the presence of the divine is felt at every nook of the temple. A number of beautifully carved peacocks have been sculpted to enhance the aesthetic appeal of this holy shrine. The Kartik Purnima is the most important festival celebrated at the Brahma Temple Ajmer.

Gayatri Temple

According to Hindu mythology, the gods released a swan with a lotus in its beak from the Swarg or heaven. The place where the swan would drop the lotus would be the place where Lord Brahma would perform a grand yagna. Pushkar was that place, and it came to be called Pushkar ever since. Pushkar is 14 km from Ajmer and revered as one of the five 'Dhams' the must visit pilgrimage spots for the Hindus.
Goddess Gayatri is the consort of Lord Brahma and is said to have stood by him while he performed the yajna at Pushkar. Goddess Gayatri was said to have been an untouchable. Legend says that to purify her she was put into the mouth of a cow and taken out from the other end. The Gayatri Temple at Pushkar in Rajasthan is visited every pilgrim out on a pilgrimage tour at Pushkar.
The Gayatri Temple in Pushkar Rajasthan is located by the side of the holy pond atop a hill. The temple remains closed during the noon and early afternoon for the midday offering.

Pap Mochini Temple

In the Northern section of Pushkar, the Pap Mochini Temple is located; pap in Sanskrit means 'sin' and mochini means 'absolving'. Pap Mochini Temple in Pushkar is presided by the deity Ekadashi Mata, believed to respite her followers from all cardinal sins. It was believed in ancient India that killing a Brahmin would mount to eternal punishment and the soul of the killer would be doomed forever.
There is no way to acquit oneself from this sin (of murdering a Brahmin, who is supposed to be in the highest in the pyramidal plane of the Hindu social structure), even if he does so unknowingly. Since it was the worst of all sins in ancient India, the people who committed the blunder of murdering Brahmins used to come to Pap Mochini Temple because it is believed that Goddess Ekadashi Mata is the only goddess on earth who can free her devotees from this catastrophe.
There is also a mythological association to this temple. Lord Krishna once cursed Ashwathama, a character in the Indian Epic, Mahabharata, to roam about in the earth for Three Thousand Years. In order to seek salvation, his soul comes to the Pap Mochini Temple in Rajasthan once in a year, and this time is suitable for prayer.
A panoramic view of this Temple in Pushkar can be observed from a little distance; on the left side is the Lake where the devotees take a sacred dip, whereas on the right side there is Sandy Mela Ground; it leads to the arid region Marwar, known as Marwar plateau.

Raghunath Temple

Of the two temples named Raghunath Temple in Pushkar, the older one is dedicated to lord Vishnu and was constructed in the year 1823. Rama, the epic hero of the Ramayana, is the presiding deity in this temple. He is supposed to be an avatar, or incarnation of the Lord Vishnu.
Lord Vishnu is believed to be the preserver, Lord Shiva the destroyer and Lord Brahma the creator. They jointly constitute the Indian Holy Trinity. According to the Hindu Mythology Lord Vishnu reincarnated in various forms to save his followers from disasters and one such is Lord Rama , whose life have been portrayed in the Ramayana.
There are numerous Gods and Goddesses inside the Raghunath Temple. Housing the images of Venugopal, Narasimha (the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu) and Goddess Laxmi (the much adored goddess of wealth), this temple is reminiscent of ancient India.
Of the seven shrines inside the Raghunath Temple in Rajasthan, each has its own shikhara. This is actually a peak over the sanctum sanctorum of the reigning deity, a conspicuous architectural feature in Indian Temples. Most temples in North India have a distinct shikhara, while in South India the counterpart is known as Vimana.
Another significant feature of Raghunath Temple is the large temple complex, which is supposed to be one of the greatest in North India. Raghunath Temple is an important Temple in Pushkar.

Located atop a hill one can get a panoramic view of the city and the Pushkar Lake on their tour to the Ramavaikunth Temple. The towering spires of Ramavaikunth Temple make it a beautiful sight for the tourists.

Saraswati is the wife of Brahma. Literally her name means 'the flowing one' .In the Rig Veda she represents a river deity and is connected with fertility and purification. She is considered the personification of all knowledge - arts, sciences, crafts and skills. She is the goddess of the creative impulse, the source of music, beauty and eloquence. Artists, writers and other individuals involved in creative endeavors have for millennia come on pilgrimage to Pushkar to request the inspiration of Brahma and Saraswati. According to the mythology, the Varah Temple is a very important temple. It is believed that Lord Vishnu came on the earth in the incarnation of Varah (Wild boar) to destroy the devil Hirnayaksh and set the land free from his violence. The Varah Temple of Pushkar was built in the 12th century and, and the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb is known to have ruined it. Aurangzeb was justifiably quite disappointed with the enormous statue of Varah, the god with the body of a man and the head of a wild boar. On the other hand, Raja Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur thought another way, and in 1727 remodeled the Varah Temple which now has a vastly bedecked inner chamber where an idol of Varah is placed.
